Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This module is part of a connected and work-based academic programme embedded across all three years of the degree. Students will draw on the professional skills attained at Levels 4 and 5 and further develop these to negotiate, deliver and reflect on a collaborative project with an employer. Students will negotiate assessment modes to provide the flexibility for them to apply theoretical understanding and practical work-based development in a chosen context. This could include a work-based project or intervention or an alternative professional development project within their work setting. Students will be expected to negotiate a project with their work partner or prior placement provider that meets the needs of both the work partner and the student’s skills development.

Further Details Relating to Assessment
Project Outline
This assessment will contain a reflective outline of approach and intended outcomes, set in the context of relevant literature/sector best practice.
Workplace Hours
A tripartite sign-off form will be required. This form will include the details of the project outlined by the student, will be verified by the employer and will be signed off by the module leader. This form will also include an agreed pattern of working hours. The employer will be asked to submit 2 progress reports at the mid-stage and end of the negotiated work project.
Negotiated Project
The negotiated project will need to be of significant magnitude to ensure it is broad and substantial enough to fullfill the 80% of this module’s assessment. The project will be negotiated between the module lead and the student and other stakeholders such as employers.
Students will be expected to negotiate a project with their work partner or prior placement provider that meets the needs of both the work partner and the student’s skills development. This might include the implementation of a series of game mechanics, or the conception and completion of game assets such as concept art, 3D models, level designs, prototype of a playable game. The output will be driven by the student’s specialist area, the module lead and the employer.
In Games Design classes, formative assessment serves to bolster the skills essential for module completion and success. This includes engaging in practical computer lab workshops, undertaking design and modelling tasks, delivering case study presentations, writing essays, completing short quizzes and conducting specific investigation tasks. The provision of formative feedback is integrated seamlessly into class sessions, ensuring an ongoing and iterative process to enhance learning outcomes. This will provide ample opportunities for feedback and feed forward to students before their assignments.
Please note that assessment 002 - Workplace Hours - must be passed in line with University regulations. Full details of the assignment briefs and criteria are available within the Module Handbook.
