CYP7200 - Skills Days

Objectives:

The 30 skills development days embedded within this programme are a vital component of student’s preparation to practice as a professional social worker. These days are designed to align with Social Work England's professional standards and provide students with experiential learning opportunities that are equivalent in duration and intensity to a placement day, typically consisting of no less than seven hours (plus a lunch break). These days focus on equipping students with the foundational knowledge, practical abilities, and reflective skills necessary for effective and ethical social work practice. These days are integral to ensuring that by the end of the course, students are fully prepared to register and practice as a social worker.

Content:

During these sessions, students will engage in a diverse range of activities, including:

- Practice Simulations: Participate in real-life scenario recreations, supported by professionals and people with lived experience, to develop communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

- Learning from Practitioners: Gain insights from experienced practitioners who share their knowledge, techniques, and reflections on practice.

- Engagement with People with Lived Experience: Interact with service users and carers, enhancing understanding of their perspectives and developing skills for person-centred and anti-oppressive practice.

- Skill Development Workshops: Build core competencies such as communication, conflict management, court skills, and reflective practice, essential for navigating the complexities of the social work role.
