CON6023 - Management of People, Projects & Organisations

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

In this module of management of people, projects, and organisation students on BSc (Hons) Construction Project Management will typically learn about the various aspects of managing construction projects, including the management of people, project planning and organisation, and the effective coordination of project teams.

1. Project Management Principles and Practices:
- Explore the advanced project management concepts, methodologies, and best practices
- Understanding the project life cycle and the role of project managers in construction projects
- Project management frameworks, such as the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) or PRINCE2.

2. Leadership and Team Management:
- Developing leadership skills and understanding the role of a project manager as a leader
- Team dynamics and effective team management strategies
- Motivating and managing project team members to achieve project goals.

3. Communication and Stakeholder Management:
- Effective communication strategies for construction projects
- Managing stakeholder expectations and relationships
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills in project management.

4. Project Planning and Scheduling:
- Developing project plans, work breakdown structures (WBS), and project schedules
- Techniques for estimating project time, cost, and resources
- Critical path analysis and scheduling techniques, such as Gantt charts and network diagrams.

5. Risk Management:
- Identifying and assessing project risks
- Developing risk management strategies and contingency plans
- Monitoring and controlling project risks throughout the project lifecycle.

6. Quality Management:
- Understanding quality standards and processes in construction projects
- Quality assurance and quality control techniques
- Implementing quality management systems and continuous improvement practices.

7. Procurement and Contract Management:
- Procurement strategies and contract types in construction projects
- Tendering and contract administration processes
- Managing relationships with contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors.

8. Health and Safety Management:
- Understanding health and safety regulations and requirements in construction projects
- Developing and implementing health and safety plans
- Managing health and safety risks and ensuring compliance on construction sites.

9. Project Control and Monitoring:
- Monitoring project progress and performance
- Earned value analysis and other project control techniques
- Change management and managing project variations.

10. Project Closure and Evaluation:
- Closing out construction projects and conducting project evaluations
- Lessons learned and knowledge transfer
- Handover processes and documentation.
