Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This module is designed to provide an overview of business research methodologies. Students will develop the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to carry out primary and secondary research and to analyse and present findings and conclusions. The overall aim of the module is to enable students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the principles underpinning the research process and the tools required to carry out key research tasks. Topics will include the fundamentals of scientific inquiry, ethical considerations in research, strengths and weaknesses of different data collection methods and basic methods of quantitative and qualitative data collection.

Further details relating to assessment
Formative assessment practices are an integral part of the learning experience in this module to support students to understand their progress through providing ongoing feedback.
Group Proposal Presentation (Live Assessment):
This group presentation allows students to explore a chosen research topic in depth and practice the initial stages of the research process. Each group will select a contemporary business problem or challenge within a specific discipline (such as marketing, finance, HR, or general management) and present a plan to investigate it. The presentation must demonstrate students’ understanding of the topic and show how modular concepts apply to real-world business scenarios.
All group members will receive the same mark. However, individual marks may be adjusted or withheld if non-participation is formally confirmed by the group and the module leader.
Research Proposal:
This individual assignment allows students to demonstrate an understanding of the practical steps required to conduct a real-world business research. Students will write a formal research proposal centered on a contemporary business issue of their choice. To complete this, students have two options: they may either build upon the same topic used in their group presentation, or choose a completely new business challenge to investigate. The final proposal must clearly define the business problem and outline a realistic methodological design to address it.
