Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This module aims to provide an understanding of the history and theories of victimology, understandings of the term 'victim' and the social construction of victims.
The module aims to reflect on the relationship between social inequalities and victimasation. (D.V, hate crime, sexual violence, corporate crime). This module will also offer an exploration of the victim’s role within the Criminal Justice Systems when considering the process and support services.
This module will focus on providing an understanding of victimology theories and the experiences and interactions of the victim for both the crime and the Criminal Justice System.
The student will be encouraged to think critically of the term ‘victim’, consider how the victims experiences could be improved within both the CJS and society.

The summative assessments will take place throughout the academic year.
Assessment 1 – Group presentation – Students need to demonstrate an understanding of a particular victim (of domestic violence, hate crime, sexual violence, corporate crime and so on) is integrated within the Criminal Justice System (CJS).
Assessment 2 – Individual written assessment – Students will need to present the relationship between social inequalities and a chosen victimization (D.V, hate crime, sexual violence, corporate crime, child abuse and so on). Learners will be expected to draw on these individuals experiences with the CJS, highlighting current practice and process and suggest alternatives, supported by victimology theories that will be covered within the module.
