Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
In this module you will learn the application of angular kinematics and kinetics. The nature of the forces that air and water can exert on athletes and sports objects and how they can affect performance. How the characteristics of sports surfaces and equipment can influence performance.
In addition, you will develop laboratory-based skills in two-dimensional motion analysis and how to analyse and interpret 2D data. Force plate data collection and analysis. Whilst developing your ability to evaluate the appropriateness of different assessment tools and assess the limitations and validity in data collection.

Further details relating to assessment
Portfolio –
For this assessment you will be required to undertake a series of weekly tasks related to the lab-based sessions that allow you to demonstrate your understanding of the indicative content. This will involve you displaying knowledge around angular kinematics, how to analyse force plate data, and how to analyse two-dimensional video data using Simi Motion.
Presentation –
You will design, undertake, and quantitatively analyse a small-scale research project using the correct biomechanical analysis. This will entail you using one or more data collection techniques developed within the module such as, but not limited to, video data collection, force plate, pressure mat and linear position transducer. You will be able to decide your own research project that you wish to undertake data collection in.
To complete assessments, you will be given access to the Motion Analysis Suite, the Strength & Conditioning Suite, and IT suites for the use of specialist software such as Dartfish & Simi Motion.
