SHN4063 - Policy and Practice in Sport and Physical Education

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

Introduction to how sport, physical activity and physical education are developed in the UK. This will be gained through an understanding of the structure and governance of sport and physical education. This facilitates awareness of the organisations involved in the delivery of sport and physical education in the UK. Students will be provided with an overview of historical and contemporary UK sport and physical education policies. Understanding key philosophical and ideological perspectives underpinning those policies will be key topics as will the promotion of inclusion and equity. Students will learn how to critique various models applied to developing sport and physical education.

Further details relating to assessment
Students will be given reading to do on a regular basis and formative tasks will be given based on the completion of the tasks. These weekly task will then help scaffold the assessment and enhance student learning during the module. For example students will look at aspects off different UK policies in order to comment upon them. They will also be guided to look at the work of different organisations e.g. Sport England, UK Coaching.

003 Essay; 2,000 words; end of semester/term 30%
