SHN4035 - Fundamentals in Human Movement

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

Musculo-skeletal structure and function: muscle mechanics, planes and axes of movement, anatomical reference points. Linear kinematics and kinetics. Work, power and energy concepts. Kinematics measurement techniques as well as training principles for the enhancement of performance variables, e.g. acceleration, velocity, impulse, power and force application. Qualitative analysis of movement.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Lectures
Hours: 10
Intended Group Size: Full cohort

Practicals
Hours: 15
Intended Group Size: 15 to 20

Guided independent study
Hours: 125

Further details relating to assessment
Assessment 1 will be a short online quiz via Moodle to test the foundation knowledge. Topics to be included are:

Anatomy of human movement
Linear kinematics
Linear kinetics
Work, power, & energy
Assessment 2 will include filming and analysing qualitatively two-dimensional video data on a movement of their choice, which will be presented digitally to feedback to an athlete.

Assessment:

001 Online test; 1,000 word equiv; mid-semester 1 30%
002 Case study; 2,000 words; end of semester 1 70%
