PSY6115 - Professional Learning Through Work

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module provides students with a flexible range of opportunities to enhance their professional skills and graduate opportunities. The module can be tailored to each individual student’s development as they apply theoretical understanding to a chosen context. This could include a work-based project within their professional setting or a skill-development approach in which the student identifies and addresses specific gaps in their portfolio of graduate-level skills.

The taught content will include reviewing approaches to work-based projects, managing time on projects, skills audits, guidance and advice on negotiating project outcomes and negotiating and agreeing an approach to assessment, along with subject contextualisation and reflective practice.

Further details relating to assessment
In relation to the professional work-based setting, a tripartite sign-off form will be required. This form will include the details of the project outline by the student, will be verified by the employer and will be signed off by the study supervisor. This should also include an agreed pattern of working hours.

The employer will also be asked to submit 3 appraisal forms (end Sem 1, mid-Feb Sem 2 and end Sem 2).

The first assessment component will consist of a project outline, a reflective outline of the approach, intended outcomes and aims set in the context of relevant literature and sector best practice.

The details of the negotiated assessment will depend on the individual student’s identified development needs and the project-work or skill-development approach agreed with the organisation and academic tutor. The content and target audience for the oral presentation will similarly be adapted accordingly.

Workplace hours will be evidenced by the employer appraisal forms. Where a skills pathway is chosen, students must complete and evidence the training and any associated outputs.

A pass in the module requires completion of the specified workplace hours.
