PSY6025 - Qualitative Research Methods in Context

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module focuses upon qualitative research in the applied context – something that is central to many Psychologist’s roles. It will explore in detail data collection tools and analysis methodologies used to conduct qualitative research. The diverse samples used in qualitative research methods will be discussed in the context that research takes place. A range of tools and techniques to enhance teaching will be considered (e.g. practical give it a go sessions regarding data collection and analysis). Reflectivity will form part of the module to ensure students appreciate the role of subjectivity (inlcuing epistemologyand ontology) in research.

The research proposal involves outlining the suitability of the selected qualitative methodology to address a research question. The second assessment is a reflective account. The relative weightings of the assessments reflect the overall student effort to complete each.
