PSY5023 - Contemporary Issues in Psychology 2

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

Following on from PSY4013 Contemporary Issues in Psychology 1, in this module students will be encouraged to explore additional contemporary issues in psychology. Students will be expected to engage more in depth with the issues presented, and to apply more critical analysis, including consideration of conceptual and historical issues in psychology. The issues that will be explored might include topics broadly pertaining to the areas of cultural psychology and environmental psychology, such as multicultural identities and the psychology of sustainability. Other areas of study may include such topics as consumer psychology and health and wellbeing. The specific contents might vary from year to year to mirror the research interests of lecturers and to reflect current issues in society. Students will have the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research in psychology and critically evaluate it.

Content will be delivered in self-contained blocks, during which students will be introduced to an area and will engage in group activities including discussions, research activities and opportunities for formative assessment.
