On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Produce an initial body of prose writing
Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the creative process
Demonstrate knowledge of literary texts cognate to their own work
Demonstrate critical awareness of cultural and stylistic issues pertaining to creative writing
This module supports and develops students' prose writing skills, leading to the production of an initial body of prose writing. With reference, where appropriate, to published works, the module focuses on planning strategies, as well as on supporting the production of the final work through tutor and peer feedback in weekly workshops. The proposal is a key element of the module, focusing on the writing strengths and weaknesses with which the student begins the course and identifying personal goals for the remainder of the course.
The focus of this module will be upon students' creative work, which will be circulated in advance and workshopped in weekly small group sessions. Students are expected to present their work-in-progress to their peers. Through sharing and discussing work in small groups, students will use peer and tutor feedback to develop and hone their prose writing skills and develop a plan for future work. Sessions will comprise weekly small group seminar/workshops and student presentations.
