Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This module critically explores current issues, developments, policies and approaches regarding children, young people and families, including an evaluation of the strategies available. Students will also critically assess the impact of leadership and management in their setting. This module enables you to recognise that children, young people and families’ lives are influenced by a range of events and issues. Students will also contextualise contemporary controversies of modern childhood within these historical perspectives.
This module will expose students to enduring and contemporary controversies surrounding modern childhood. Differing perspectives upon childhood and different approaches towards working with children and families will be compared and contrasted and evaluated in terms of their various merits. Because the module focuses upon ‘current debates’ around children and practice, the focal content of the module is likely to change. Hence, students will be introduced to emerging and novel controversies as they emerge in the news, media and current affairs. Students will be required to stay abreast of current affairs and developments in their area of expertise and practice.

The presentation will include different perspectives of childhood.
As the module involves a rationale in which critical analysis and evaluation of contemporary controversies of childhood with reference to national and international historical contexts, students will be required to commit to highly interactive workshops and seminars and contribute towards debating the issues.
Formative assessment opportunities will take place – peer formative assessment leading up to the presentation and tutor formative assessment through discussion and seminars.
The assessment is negotiated according to the work context.
