CYP5003 - Inclusion, Diversity and SEN

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

In this module, you will build on earlier study by applying understanding of child development, wellbeing and welfare in the early years. You will be expected to engage with key issues related to rights, equity and inclusion across a wide range of diverse themes influencing children, their families and society. including:

• Disability, behavioural and social/emotional disorders;
• Faith, religion, belief systems;
• Alternative lifestyle choices;
• LGBTQ+;
• Socio-economic issues relating to health and poverty;
• Impact of discrimination and labelling on children, their families and society.

Current policy and provision will be a central focus of this module as will social justice and ethics.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Formal scheduled teaching and learning activities. This module will be taught using a mixture of lectures, seminars, workshops and groupwork/tutorials, some of which will be student-led. Formative assessment by self and peers will be integrated into the sessions.

Guided independent study
Students could be expected to prepare for the sessions by reading set texts and completion of tasks set in class or via the VLE and will be expected to take part in a wide range of learning activities.Students may be required to prepare and present brief presentations as the basis for discussion in seminars or workshops.

Further details relating to assessment
Oral presentation is on a chosen aspect of inclusive practice and provision. The case study will involve an evaluation of current policy and provision. Formative assessment by self and peers will be integrated into the sessions. The Integrated Assessment will include an observation of filmed evidence of alternative approaches and appraise effectiveness of provision and practice.
