COM4025 - Team Project (Employer Led)

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

In this module, students develop the soft and transferable skills that will enable them to collaborate successfully on a team project. In the first half of the semester, students are supported to develop group working skills through guided independent and group activities and encouraged to reflect on their personal strengths and areas for development. In the second half of the semester, students work intensively in teams to provide a software solution to a given business brief, setting understanding of software development within an applied business context. Through the team project, students integrate and apply the practical skills and knowledge gained from their previous modules in an employer-led project such that students gain valuable sector insights while demonstrating their capacity for critical self-reflection and growth. The content covers: • Model, design and deploy a software system using appropriate tools and technologies; • Work together as a team to plan, execute, and review a specified project; • Evaluate the ongoing development of self-confidence and team working skills, reviewing personal strengths and areas for development; • Practice basic security and risk management in the planning and delivery of a software project.

Further details relating to assessment
The assessment will serve as an integrated assessment of knowledge and skills obtained across the year (Level 4). Students will have the opportunity to integrate and apply practical skills and knowledge in an employer-led project and gain sector insights.

Sample Team Project (100%): An example team project (to illustrate scope and level):

Brief: Design an online retail system through which customers can:

- create an account
- purchase items from an online catalogue
- receive account information
- store items in a database
- display payment at a checkout page.

Students are expected to provide custom extensions to meet specified management report requirements. The marks awarded for teamwork shall be based on the fitness of the solution. A single submission is required per team.

Employer involvement may include:

- contribute to the project brief
- serve as a product owner and conduct acceptance testing
- involve in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

Students are also expected to provide an individual brief reflective commentary on the project process, which will be supported by a peer assessment sheet completed by each student.

In this module, formative assessment will be used to support the skills that contribute to the assessment. Formative assessment may include coding labs, design and modelling tasks, case study presentations, short quizzes, agile retrospectives, or specific research tasks. Formative feedback will be an ongoing process within class sessions.
