PER5013 - Mind, Self and World

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module covers selected episodes from the Early Modern period in philosophy, focusing in particular on questions pertaining to the nature of persons, the world, and how we come to know about the world. It will do so by examining the works of philosophers such as (but not limited to) Anne Conway, David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Margaret Cavendish. The module will also draw connections between European and non-European philosophy on these topics in order to demonstrate a range of thought that extends beyond the classical Western European canon.

The module will focus on developing a capacity for close philosophical analysis. It will also continue the development of clear, precise argumentation and critical engagement which began in the Level 4 modules PER4013 and PER4015.
