ENG6683 - Applied Linguistics

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

Students will begin the module by constructing an overview of Applied Linguistics as an interdisciplinary field, the different areas of work which come under this heading and links between them. The module will examine the different ways in which linguistic knowledge and research contribute to modern societies. In the second part of the module, students will explore in more detail the problems faced and methods used in clinical linguistics. The focus is not only on the way that linguistic knowledge is applied but also how it could be applied in the future in light of new research.
