Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
This module will follow two broad themes and introduce the student to several important skills required for effective sports therapy practice and study. The module will introduce basic assessment skills and soft tissue techniques. Students will learn the safe and effective application of sports massage, whilst also gaining an understanding of other soft tissue techniques. This theoretical understanding is to include, but not limited to contraindications, physiological effects and therapeutic effects of massage and soft tissue techniques. In doing this, students will also gain a basic understanding of the key components of the assessment process.
Running parallel to this, students will be introduced to key research and study skills that will be vital to their study at Leeds Trinity University, including use of library resources, referencing and essay writing skills.

Assessment 001 is a group task where students will demonstrate their understanding of sociological and diverse sports therapy practice.
Assessment 002 will cover the key practical skills required to perform both elements of a basic musculoskeletal assessment and the performance of massage and soft tissue techniques. Each sub-component will be allocated 15 minutes.
Assessment 003 will cover the modules underpinning theory content.
Formative assessment will take place during the practical workshops. They will be peer and tutor assessed and involve the practice and feedback of physical skills and tests.
NB. To the pass this module it is a requirement of the PSRB that students have an 80% attendance for practical sessions.
