On successful completion of the module, participants will be able to:
Critically examine and reflect on their own professional practice to analyse self and own actions;
Demonstrate knowledge and critically review key theories, ideas, models and frameworks in reflective practice;
Synthesise research findings and other evidence to inform application to own professional context;
Assess the findings and conclusions of their research to compose an account that recognises the limitations and nuances of such enquiry.
This module will analyse the foundations of reflective practice in education, considering its theoretical underpinnings and its relation to other disciplines. It will look at different forms of reflective practice in teaching/education.
The module will consider practical approaches to reflective practice, including the use of collaborative and individual approaches to writing and thinking reflectively to enhance teaching and learning. It will provide a framework for individual evaluation of professional practice, and action planning for professional learning.
Learning will be focussed on fostering critical reflective practice. Activities will include lectures, small group discussion workshops, student presentations, seminars and independent study. Students will use Moodle to support learning and to share emerging ideas. Learning will be supported by module tutorials.
Participants will be expected to draw on their own professional experiences and personal contexts in order to contribute to, and lead, group activities.

Further details relating to assessment
Do all individual components need to be passed to pass the module overall? Yes
Is this module exempt from condonement of marginal failure? Yes
Assessment is through a negotiated reflective practice assignment. The Module Tutor will ensure that the agreed assignment will address the module and programme learning outcomes, and is directly related to professional practice. As such, students will evidence professional practices, and evaluate and reflect upon them within the assignment. It provides opportunities for participants to reflect upon, critique, and investigate research, policy and practice as it impacts on their professional context.
