On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate subject and primary curriculum knowledge of English, Mathematics, Science, Computing and Physical Education;
Understand progression of pupils' learning in the subjects studied;
Reflect on resources and approaches to teaching and learning, demonstrating understanding of how these may be applied effectively in school contexts;
Produce and appraise, with peers, learning resources appropriate to the age-range studied;
Explain theoretical principles of learning in each of the subject areas studied, making links to evaluations of practice.
The module will build on PED4312 and PED4322 to develop students' subject knowledge and understanding in English, Mathematics, Science and PE. Trainees will explore a range of teaching methods within each subject. National priority areas and educational developments in each subject area will be addressed.
Subject knowledge and understanding will underpin students' capacity to plan and teach units of work, embedding assessments for formative and summative purposes as per relevant national frameworks and structures.
Students will be supported in reflecting on current practice in preparation for the assessment and seeking to identify links and make connections between elements of the module in support of progression towards Level 6 demands.
Taught sessions will include a variety of approaches to promote active and collaborative learning, incorporating integrative assessments.

The portfolio will include three components:
1. English and maths group presentation (1,500-word equivalent);
2. Reflection on the presentation (500 words);
3. Response to a journal article in one subject area (2,000 words).
The presentation will be formatively and peer assessed mid-semester.
