MFC6463 - Creating TV Content

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

In this module, students tackle the third and final section of the Creating Content project, in which they develop a professional-standard understanding of the processes required to create highy-quality content for TV (factual or drama), online and any other platform.

After completing this in Semester 1, they devote their time to create a final-year project of their own devising – in any genre or platform. It can be a factual film, a short drama, a studio-based TV show, a YouTube channel – or a written dissertation about a TV-related subject.

Further details relating to assessment
Assessment 1: Students must demonstrate a high-level of skill in devising and producing a final-year project, based on all the skills and techniques learned on the TV Production modules in Levels 4 and 5. The student work can be a programme/video/artefact in any genre or platform – including an online channel – but must be supported by comprehensive target audience research and detailed production paperwork. Alternatively, students may chose to demonstrate their understanding via a 3,000-word academic essay, applied to a TV or content-related subject.

Assessment 2: Students must display a detailed grasp of the demands of professional-standard production in whatever genre or platform they choose in a 3,000-word critical evaluation, spelling out areas in which they still need to improve.

Early Assessment: there will be a formative assessment within the first 4 weeks and this will help unpack the assignment details for the 1st assignment as well as guide and inform student preparation and help introduce the University grading system.
