On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Research and evidence the appropriate methodology required for printing, framing, curating and hanging photographic imagery to a professional standard in an exhibition context.
Communicate with peers and outside agents in a professonal manner in the preparation and planning, organising and realisation of a group exhibition of work.
Collaborate with peers and outside agents to devise and execute a promotional strategy, including the use of networks and social media to develop an audience and to promote the exhibition and preview event to industry and the public.
During Semester 1 students will work with each other and the module tutor on researching the format of the Degree Show and will be put into specialist teams to work on research and development of the group show. Students will initially share and discuss their ideas and this process will culminate in a formal oral presentation by each student.
During Semester 2 students will work on their plans for realising both their own curated portfolio of images made in either Research Module MFC6234 or Collaborative Project 3 MFC6012. Student will also collaborate with peers to plan the group show. Students will be supported by group workshops and individual meetings with an academic member of staff. Students will work on a PR strategy for promoting the show and generating an audience. Students will keep a research file throughout the module and will use this, as they complete the project, to document their research and evidence and write a reflective commentary on the process.
Initial support will be provided in project management aspects required for planning and curating an exhibition. Students will take an active role in their learning through an independent approach to investigation, research and planning. Teaching will initially be through a series of workshops at which students will share ideas and plans informally. A formative oral presentation by each student will happen at the end of the first semester. Towards the end of the module students will work in an independent capacity both individually and as a group on their exhibitions with support from academic and technical staff.

Assessment 1 – Oral Presentation: For this oral presentation you will present your research and findings so far on how to realise a professional standard exhibition, your role within the team, and your plans for the realisation of your research module work within the exhibition.
Assessment 2 – Exhibition Planning and Launch Portfolio: this will take the form of a photography degree show in the appropriate format for the venue and portfolio of research to support the module work. The artefacts students choose to display will not be marked in this module and students may choose to use work from other modules for the exhibition (including MFC6234 (if students produce practical artefacts) or MFC6012). The photographs and/or moving images will be displayed using the appropriate methodology for the ideas behind the work. Images must also be supplied in a format pre-specified both for an e-publication and an online show.
Students will be marked on:
• Their exhibition methodology and curation strategy
• Printing, display and installation
• The design and execution of a PR strategy for the exhibition, including engagement with industry bodies such as PhotoGrad and Source Graduate
• Event Planning and Delivery, including production of an exhibition catalogue and a preview event with invitees
• Online / social media design and promotion.
