MFC5025 - Curating Photographs

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

In this module you learn what it takes to curate a photography exhibition. You do so through exploration of artist exhibitions both past and present and by experimenting with materials (sequencing and sizing) and working within a set space. You also learn, through teamwork, how to fundraise and organise the opening evening of the exhibition via communicating with the relevant parties including printers, framers and venues. You market and promote the show preview within the University, local community and online as well as host and document the successful event. This module prepares you for your independent exhibition at Level 6.

Assignment 1: A portolio of photographs (20-25 images).

Assignment 2: A research file underpinning and supporting the submitted photographic work.

Early Assessment: there will be a formative assessment within the first 4 weeks and this will help unpack the assignment details for the 1st assignment as well as guide and inform student preparation and help introduce the University grading system.

Assessment:

001 Portfolio; 2,000-word equivalent; end of semester 2 60%
002 Research file; 1,000 words; end of semester 2 40%
