Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.
Students will initially work with each other and the module tutor on formulating a particular writing project, with a clear focus and aims, drawing on and bringing together work done earlier in the programme. This could be prose fiction, poetry, drama, a short film, a serious article, or a blog post. This process will culminate in an assessed oral presentation by each student. Following this, students will work on their projects, supported by workshops with other students and one-to-one meetings with tutors. Students will keep a notebook throughout, and will use this to write a formal reflective commentary on the process of formulating, drafting and completing the work.

Further details relating to assessment
The negotiated writing project needs to be 6,000 words or equivalent of creative work in order to allow scope for the breadth of exploration expected at Level 6. The presentation at the beginning of Semester 2 describes the project plan and the critical commentary at the end of Semester 2 measures the project against the plan. See indicative content section for further information on the assessments.
There will be an early opportunity for some formative exercises that will help unpack the assessment, clarifying the nature of the task and the marking criteria.
