ENG5583 - Discovering Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture

Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module will introduce students to Spanish language and Hispanic culture.

One part of the module is a beginner’s-level language course. Students will learn: to use expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. personal and family information, shopping, local geography, student life); to engage in simple and direct exchanges of information on familiar and routine matters; to describe in simple terms aspects of their personal background and immediate environment.

Alongside their language-learning, students will study a selection of cultural and social topics relevant to the Spanish language, including literary texts, films and popular culture, history and politics.

Due to the practical language-learning component of this module, contact hours will be higher than usual.
