Objectives:

Assessment tasks are designed to enable students to demonstrate the Learning and Employability outcomes for the relevant level of study. Level Learning Outcomes are embedded in the assessment task(s) at that level. This enables a more integrated view of overall student performance at each level.

Content:

This module introduces students to the study of how language is used in society and how it varies depending on context, both in terms of micro and macro social categories (Sociolinguistics) and with regard to interactional settings, roles and aims (Pragmatics). Students will become familiar with key concepts and theories and they will learn how to use available resources to research these areas drawing on academic sources. Early Assessment: there will be assessment in all four Level 4 modules in the programme between five and eight weeks after Intro Week. This will provide assessment unpacking.
