CYP7083 - Critical Debates in Childhood Studies

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Critically engage with contemporary issues relating to the lives of children.
Demonstrate a critical and advanced awareness of current philosophical debates relating to children’s learning and development.
Demonstrate an ability to critically analyse current initiatives and ethical dilemmas relating to childhood and education.

Content:

This module will enable students to develop critical reasoning and the ability to synthesise knowledge from a wide range of theoretical perspectives, ethical debates and issues to generate a creative approach to the needs of a varied contemporary arena of childhood, including minority groups and those with special characteristics.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning on this module will develop skills and confidence in independent study by creating a network of support through lectures, seminars and a negotiated approach to learning and assessment. Students will be encouraged to undertake prior reading and research contributing to a varied menu of discussions and debates which will contribute to rolling, formative, self, peer and tutor assessment.
