Objectives:

On successful completion of the module students will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the historical and contemporary importance of sport to nations
Question and evaluate a number of issues in contemporary sport in the context of mega events utilising a variety of approaches
Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between sport, politics and society in the domestic and international contexts
Conduct an investigation of a contemporary issue in global sport

Content:

Theme One: Elite Sport; Globalisation and National Identity through sport
Theme Two: Corruption and Global Governance in Sport
Theme Three: Mega Events

Independent study requirements
Total student contact hours = 40.
Students will be expected to spend 160 hours in background reading and preparation for tutorials and the assignments.
Monitoring of progress through seminar tasks and tutorials throughout the semester.
