On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
With independence, apply knowledge of professional schools from taught modules to a classroom setting;
Demonstrate increasing competence at the expected level against all Teachers’ Standards (DfE, 2012);
Adhere to professional expectations as set out in Part Two of the Teachers' Standards (DfE, 2012) within and outside of the setting;
Establish effective working relationships within the setting;
Evaluate their own performance against the Teachers' Standards (DfE, 2012) through engaging in the coaching and mentoring process.
Students have SBT preparation sessions at the University that support them in reflecting on their experiences in PED4302 and support their development as a professional in school. They will become more familiar with current policies, National Priorities and best practice. Students complete a further 35 days in school where they teach up to 70% of teacher's timetable.
Teaching consists of University lectures, independent study and group work. This is followed by 35 days of School-Based Training (SBT). During SBT students have the opportunity to observe and work alongside qualified teachers and reflect on their experiences and continual professional development. The skills developed would be as determined by capacity to meet the Teachers' Standards (2012) https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/teachers-standards. These consist of, but not exclusively, a competence to plan, teach and assess given areas of the curriculum in a professional environment. These are in line with expectations for Level 5.

Further details relating to assessment
Students will complete an impact report on the progress pupils have made in English and maths. This will inform the final assessment report.
School mentors and class teachers use formative and summative assessment materials to report on the progress of students across the Teachers' Standards. The final Assessment Report and supporting evidence is forwarded to the University by the deadline provided for end of placement.
Students must evidence the minimum requirement to be awarded an overall pass for the module. Link tutors support Mentors in their assessment role, moderating grades and quality assuring each setting.
Other relevant matters
Any student who is insufficiently prepared for SBT, through lack of attendance at preparation sessions or lack of appropriate preparation for teaching will be referred to the Academic and Professional Misconduct Panel (or the equivalent). The outcome may result in a withdrawal from SBT and a fail mark recorded for this module.
In addition, Schools reserve the right to withdraw any student from SBT who is acting unprofessionally, is insufficiently prepared and who is jeopardising the education and/or safety of the children. A fail mark will be recorded with reference to Part 2 of the Teachers' Standards subject to the outcome from the relevant Panel of Examiners.
Summative judgements are made against the Teachers' Standards.
