CRS4021A - CCRS - Jesus Christ

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 recognize the diversity of images of the Person of Jesus;
2 relate these images to the social and cultural context in which they were shaped and expressed;
3 appreciate the mission of Jesus to proclaim the Kingdom of God;
4 recognize the centrality of the Person of Jesus, both fully human and divine;
5 communicate what they have learned from an adult stance.

Content:

• The participants’ own images of Jesus Christ and how such images are shaped by the arts (music/art/architecture), personal history and worship.
• Images of Christ drawn form the Bible.
• Credal statements and their relevance today, with particular reference to the Nicene Creed and the historical and social context in which it developed.
• Reflection on the concept of the Kingdom of God as it is expressed in the Bible and understood today.

Learning and Teaching Information:

This will include:
• reflection on personal experience;
• related input to deepen understanding;
• the gathering of information through reading and listening;
• group discussion.
