On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate academic skills appropriate to HE study at degree level, to include the groundwork for good practice in HE study skills
Demonstrate appropriate use of the University's virtual learning platform
Demonstrate a growing ability to make meaningful connections between aspects of own learning - in particular between university learning and Workplace learning via mapping to the Knowledges Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) of their apprenticeship standard
Demonstrate increasing use of the online Learning Journal, as a place to evidence learning by reflecting upon own practice in the workplace combined with the demands of apprenticeship study
Reflect effectively and analytically upon own learning within this module
The aim of this module is to support apprentices by providing them with the vital study skills they will need to successfully negotiate HE.
The apprentices will be introduced to academic conventions around writing, note taking, literature searching and referencing. This may include undertaking tasks within the Library and the Learning Hub, being introduced to the VLE being used for the programme and the e-portfolio and guided in the creation of entries to their Learning Journals. The module will focus on the importance of the apprentices mapping their workplace activities to the knowledge’s, skills and behaviours (KSBs) of their apprenticeship standard – and furthermore how this also maps to their degree study and learning activities. This will be the focus of their Learning Journal entry. Apprentices will write reflectively to demonstrate what they learn within the module and this piece of work may also be included in the Learning Journal.
Typically delivered on a blended learning basis with a combination of workshops and on-line support.

Further details relating to assessment
Working towards the module's assessment is handled via several guided exercises making up a small portfolio: usually including a literary search; a referencing exercise; using the VLE; a learning journal entry based upon evidence uploaded to the e.portfolio and a piece of analytical reflection, focused on personal learning that has taken place within the module. Summative assessment is given on these tasks, which will be viewed as a short portfolio of learning achievement.
Formative feedback is however offered throughout the workshops and related to the activities undertaken and the KSBs of the apprenticeship standard. This will be done via formal sessions and also via online interactions on the VLE and the use of tools such as email and Skype (or equivalent)
The word counts are viewed as equivalent, for example the apprentices may undergo some activities that are deemed to be the credit worthy, such as giving a short presentation or offering feedback on a post.
