SHN7125 - Researching Sport Management

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Appraise complex qualitative and quantitative research practices.
Evaluate the effectiveness of specific research methodology through analysis of a wide variety of international peer reviewed journal studies.
Conduct a critical study design, acknowledging contemporary developments in Sport Management research methodology.
Appraise debates within and around contemporary research methodology and around ethics and research.

Content:

Understanding quantitative research and qualitative research. Identifying specific research methodologies in relation to existing international research questions. Contemporary debates in research methodology. Research methodology and ethics. Advanced quantitative analysis. Critique of research methodology.

Learning and Teaching Information:

The module is delivered through some introductory lectures and workshops and learning is consolidated through detailed online support. The VLE is used extensively to support students in developing their research interests through a range of directed reading and directed tasks and face-to-face and telephone tutorials are offered throughout.
