On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Critically discuss and reflect on their own professional practice in relation to Catholic Educational Leadership Development;
Identify and define from the research literature the key theories, ideas, models and frameworks of Catholic Educational Leadership Development;
Analyse and judge research findings and other evidence to inform their practice in Catholic Educational Leadership Development;
Synthesise research findings to compose a reflective account in relation to effective Catholic Educational Leadership Development; that assesses the impact of their learning on professional practice.
This module provides opportunities to reflect upon and develop a deeper understanding of climate, culture and values with particular reference to the context of Catholic education. It is designed for people who wish to develop their potential to work in leadership in Catholic education, and is aimed at helping to prepare them for this by providing opportunities to: (i) reflect upon their own leadership style and values,(ii) to reflect upon the skills and knowledge needed to become an effective leader in the Catholic educational context, and (iii) to evaluate their progress so far.
Participants will be encouraged to develop a self-critical approach to their leadership development by the on-going evaluation of their leadership experiences via a reflective journal. It also aims to provide opportunities for the practice of leadership skills and the opportunity to share experiences.
The module provides each participant with the opportunity to review and reflect on a contextualised issue for Catholic educational leadership and to design and implement a quality improvement project which will produce real impact upon their individual organisations and upon their own developing leadership skills.

Learning will include specialist tutor input, small and whole group work and discussion, one-to-one coaching, learning conversations, action learning sets, practitioner project/enquiry, workshops, presentations, guest lectures/speakers, mentoring work/shadowing, visits to other schools/colleges, on-line networking, role-play, interview and panel, one-to-one coaching and interview feedback, general practical tasks, seminars/meetings and independent study as appropriate. Reflective practice will be facilitated in taught sessions and supported by tutorials and online forums on the University VLE. Support will be available for the preparation of the work based assignment on the Leeds Trinity University VLE.
Participants will be expected to draw on their own professional experiences and relevant research in order to contribute to, and lead, group activities.

Further details relating to assessment
Assessment is through a negotiated reflective practice assignment. The Module Tutor will ensure that the agreed assignment will address the module and programme learning outcomes, and is directly related to professional practice. As such, students will evidence professional practices, and evaluate and reflect upon them within the assignment. It provides opportunities for participants to reflect upon, critique, and investigate research, policy and practice as it impacts on their professional context.
Portfolio - An analytical critical response to a collection of recent and relevant articles and papers on an agreed Catholic leadership issue, accompanied by a reflective journal.
Project The design, delivery and review of a leadership skills in practice improvement project underpinned by an academic literature review in a chosen area or for a chosen issue.
Individual Presentation Leadership skills in practice An individual presentation linked to students leadership development in context.
Other relevant matters
It is not expected that students on this module will be engaging in empirical research. As a part of the process of negotiating the focus for the assignment, the Module Tutor may require the student to complete the Leeds Trinity Research Ethics Self-Assessment Form to as a way of checking that an application for ethical clearance is not required, or may require the student to make an ethical clearance application if needed.
