On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Identify and appraise key issues in secondary education.
Discuss the purpose and nature of secondary curriculum provision.
Evaluate school and classroom level policy and procedures for managing pupils’ behaviour.
Evaluate school and classroom level provision for supporting individual needs in literacy, language and numeracy.
In this module students will gain a better understanding of the secondary curriculum and its aims. They will explore key issues with regard to secondary education, and explore in more detail behaviour management and the support for literacy, language and numeracy. Students will draw on their own experience of the secondary context as well as published research in the field.
Sessions will use a range of learning and teaching methods including peer tutoring, student presentations, tutor - led demonstrations, individual and paired working.
During the course of each session there will be tutor/student interaction to meet individual needs and help develop skills, confidence, competence, knowledge and understanding relating to the aims and objectives.
On-going self evaluation will be part of the students’ identification of needs.
Course documentation, support materials and web based materials will be available on the VLE.
