MFC4401 - Audio Production

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
demonstrate a basic competence in digital audio sound recording and editing;
demonstrate a basic competence in sound design
demonstrate a basic competence in scripting and voicing for podcast
demonstrate analytical editorial awareness and decision making

Content:

The module will introduce the basic concepts and practical skills required in recording and producing audio for film, television and podcast production. It will include the use of digital audio recorders, various microphones, principles of digital editing and sound design, encoding audio for podcast delivery. It will introduce concepts of scripting for podcasts and voicing techniques.

Further details relating to assessment
Directed activities: these consist of weekly tasks that must be completed and submitted for inspection at timetabled sessions each week. The assessment will be assessed on a pass/fail basis with a pass requiring at least 75% of all weekly tasks to be completed successfully. A pass will lead to the full award of 10% towards the final module mark. A fail in directed activities will contribute 0% to the final mark.

Portfolio 1 will normally include an audio track, recorded and mixed to accompany a piece of video, and a 1 minute Podcast.
