MFC4141 - Radio Production

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Demonstrate a basic competence in radio studio operations and location sound recording and editing;
demonstrate a basic competence in scripting and voice technique for radio & podcasts;
Re-encode digital audio file formats depending on the intended platform of delivery (radio broadcast or podcast);
Demonstrate analytical editorial awareness and decision making.

Content:

The module introduces the basic concepts and practical skills required to produce an audio product which could be packaged for radio broadcast or for podcast delivery. Technical skills to be explored include: location sound recording, digital editing and encoding, interview techniques, voicing and mic-technique, scripting.

Further details relating to assessment
Directed activities:
These consist of weekly tasks that must be completed and submitted for inspection at timetabled sessions each week. The assessment will be on a pass/ fail basis with a pass requiring at least 75% of all weekly tasks successfully completed. A pass mark will lead to the full award of 10% towards the final mark. A fail in directed activities will contribute 0% to the final mark.

Portfolio will normally include a podcast featuring the use of vox pop audio and a voice-piece.
