It will develop fluency and accuracy and help students to understand and respond appropriately to both written and spoken texts. There will be a focus on improving students’ understanding of key grammatical areas, such as verb forms and tenses and use of articles, etc. There will also be a focus on vocabulary extension, including vocabulary development specific to students’ area of future study. The unit will develop linguistic competency in a progressive way through the use of interactive teaching and participatory exercises, including group/team discussions and presentations. The unit will support learning in the Academic Skills 1 unit as well as provide communicational development, which will help in social situations.
