ICE7112 - Innovation in Learning, Teaching and Assessment in Higher Education

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Critically analyse theoretical perspectives in relation to higher education pedagogy;
Critically analyse research methodology and methods in relation to higher education pedagogy;
Critically evaluate an aspect of innovation in relation to higher education pedagogy;
Critically analyse conceptual frameworks for pedagogical innovations in higher education;
Synthesise and communicate information effectively to a wider audience.

Content:

This module will focus on developing innovative approaches in learning, teaching and assessment in the higher education context. The module will explore perspectives on innovation through a series of Masterclasses. The module will explore various innovative pedagogical approaches including: flipped learning; the use of mobile technology and social networking in HE learning and teaching; multi-disciplinary projects, student-led enquiry; students as producers/researchers; problem-based learning; immersive technology; students as partners; innovations in assessment. Participants will be asked to shape this module by suggesting possible themes for exploration. Participants will present an aspect of pedagogical innovation which they research through a poster presentation at the learning and teaching conference. Participants will be introduced to action research as a methodological approach.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Teaching will be through student-led enquiry, active learning and collaboration. Taught sessions will be supported with material which is uploaded onto Moodle.

This module is exempt from condonement of marginal failure in line with the condonement requirements of postgraduate awards in the Taught Course Academic Regulations.

***Participants who need to undertake this module only (as they have achieved RPL for the remainder of the PGCert HE programme and/or have HEA Fellowship) as part of the PGCert HE are additionally required to submit four observations of their practice in line with accreditation requirements of the UKPSF. Failure to do so means that this module cannot be passed so the award of PGCert HE cannot be achieved.
