On successful completion of the module students will be able to:
Write a CV and letter of application.
Reflect on personal strengths and weaknesses in professional skills such as: effective communication; team work;
use of IT; planning administration; problem solving; inter-personal skills; interview skills; develop a personal action plan related to career development.
Analyse the aims procedures and activities of a specific organisation.
Apply knowledge and skills gained from studies within degree programme.
Demonstrate satisfactory performance across the pre-placement preparation and placement periods.
Students will undertake a professional development pre placement programme: career opportunities; employer expectations, placement and career planning and management; writing CVs and letters of application; interview skills.
Students will be placed within an appropriate organisation.
The detailed nature of the placement will be the subject of a formal "learning agreement" between the student, the placement provider and the University.
Lectures, workshops and tutorials comprise the pre-placement programme which precedes the block placement period.
A pre placement tutorial and a meeting during the placement is held between student and professional mentor.

Further details relating to assessment
Directed activities: These consist of regular tasks that must be completed and submitted for inspection at timetabled sessions each week. The assessment will be on a pass/ fail basis with a pass requiring at least 75% of all weekly tasks successfully completed. A pass mark will lead to the full award of 10% towards the final mark. A fail in directed activities will contribute 0% to the final mark.
The Placement section of the assessment consists of the 2 week intensive preparation block & the 5 week placement & in addition students will submit a weekly log (template supplied) and associated evidence/example folder via Google Drive (or similar).
A full briefing on all these tasks will be given out at the start of the academic year and templates will be provided where applicable.
Placement practical performance is assessed by the University (Pass/Fail) based on information obtained directly and from the employer's report
Students must pass the placement (pass/fail), the weekly reflections and the portfolio in order to pass the module.
Other relevant information
Students with special needs will be advised to seek support from the Disability Co ordinator.
Normally, a student will be ineligible to undertake the block placement without (a) completion of the pre placement programme and (b) the required communication of placement details between student and the Employer Partnership Office.
In unavoidable circumstances when a full five week placement with an organisation is not possible an alternative project which meets the module learning objectives will be agreed between the student, supervisor and the Employer Partnership Office.
