On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Demonstrate their competences as journalists operating within professional news rooms and news teams
A minimum four consecutive weeks placed with a professional newsroom (or newsrooms), to perform newsgathering, news processing and related tasks as directed on behalf of the host organisation. Appraisals to be conducted by the host organisation in discussion with, and moderated by, college staff. A typical student will complete six weeks of placement in total.

The Employer Appraisal Form requires the host organisation to rate the student on a six point scale from point A (an excellent contribution) to point F (a very unsatisfactory contribution).
Grades A – D will constitute a pass in the module; grades E and F will be recorded as fails.
During the period of the placement, student progress is monitored by the module co-ordinator and, where possible, students are visited at their placements.
