BMM5402 - Professional Development & Placement 2

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Identify principles of effective interpersonal relationships and team working and reflect on personal strengths and weaknesses
2 Research possible job opportunities and prepare a career plan for the future
3 Apply knowledge and skills in the workplace and perform to a satisfactory standard during their 6-week placement

Content:

The preparation course will guide students for preparing career plans, searching for job opportunities and experiencing selection process. Lectures and workshops will encourage students to analyse their personality and understand the importance of effective interpersonal relationships and team work in an organisation. PDR1&2 forms and CPD diaries will help students to select employability criteria and develop professional skills though reflective learning.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Weekly sessions will use lecture and workshop formats to teach the various skills while preparation for the placement will involve meetings with the Employer Partnership Office and progress tutor.

Further details relating to assessment
An overall pass mark and passing the placement are required for progression to Level 6. Numeric marks will only be given for the portfolio and report but an overall numeric mark will be returned for the module. Not available as a half module.

Other relevant matters
Students with special needs will be advised to seek support from the Disability Co-ordinator. Normally a student will be ineligible to undertake the placement without completion of the pre-placement programme and the required communication of placement details to the Employer Partnership Office.

The practical element is normally of 6 weeks’ duration. If a full six week placement is not possible an alternative project, which meets the module learning outcomes and involves an equivalent workload, will be agreed between the student, the supervisor and the Employer Partnership Office.
