On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
Identify quality management systems and their role in developing and maintaining service standards;
Understand leisure management systems at an operational and strategic level;
Demonstrate an understanding of the particular principles and techniques found within leisure and recreation management;
Assess critically the management of particular leisure and recreation facilities;
Generic and particular management skills and techniques;
legal considerations and obligations facing leisure and recreation mangers;
research, policy and practice in leisure and recreation management;
Management theory and how this is related to service delivery within leisure and recreation.
Lecture-based with interactive student involvement including directed tasks, micro-teaching, summarizing and feeding-back. Students also make a seminar presentation outlining their particular proposed assignment. In semester 2 the students negotiate a site visit to a leisure facility where they conduct a critical evaluation of the facility and its management.
