Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Plan and carry out a piece of research in a logical and systematic manner using the appropriate data collection methods.
Analyse and interpret results.
Address ethical considerations in research.
Present findings clearly and concisely in a report.

Content:

A research project will be undertaken on a topic agreed with the supervisor. This will include original research and data collection. This may involve the use of techniques including: case studies, dietary surveys, laboratory work, interviews, and surveys. Students will be encouraged to comment on the significance of their results in relation to the work of other researchers and communicate their findings coherently in a written report.

Lectures at the start of both semesters for 3 weeks and tutorial support with supervisor.

Further details relating to assessment
Ethics submission is considered by tutor in the first instance and where required referred to the Departmental Ethics Committee for consideration. Data collection should not take place until ethical approval has been obtained. The final project report must relate to the topic approved via the ethics submission.
