Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding in event organisation and planning including ethical issues and risk management.
Use marketing techniques to promote an event.
Implement and critically evaluate an event.
Demonstrate oral and written presentation skills through activities, reports and documents.
Demonstrate skills needed to work individually and within a team.

Content:

Policy formulation. Feasibility study and needs assessment. Compiling a budget. Identification of personnel, resources and event requirement. Identifying tasks and ethical issues for event management. Communicating event management structure. Detailing a plan and timescale. Establishing control systems. Planning an event – presentation, preparation, risk management, implementation and recovery. Marketing an event using a variety of sources. Coverage of operational and financial aspects. Participating within an event. Debriefing. Compiling final evaluation report. Report writing and presentation skills using ICT. Individual and group work for event management.

Further details relating to assessment
In order to pass the module, students must have suitably engaged in the planning and delivery of an event to gain a pass in this component (as decided by the module tutor and associated mentors), along with a combined mark of 40 or above in the oral and written components of the assessment.

Assessment:

001 Oral presentation 1 x 1 hour (mid semester 2) 30%
002 Written report 1 x 3000 words (end of semester 2) 70%
