Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of theories of learning.
Evaluate factors affecting learning and their contribution to an effective learning experience.
Demonstrate understanding of the contribution swimming, gymnastics and dance make to secondary PE.
Construct short and medium term plans, identifying key factors to promote progressive learning.
Demonstrate understanding and application of assessing progress towards objectives and attainment targets.

Content:

Issues relating to short and medium term progressive planning and learning in secondary swimming, gymnastics and dance.
Management - class, time, spaces, behaviour.
Assessment - for, and of learning. Summative and formative methods of assessment. Recording and reporting.
Theories of Learning. Factors affecting learning - teaching/learning styles. Cultural and Gender issues in PE.
Risk assessment in swimming, gymnastics and dance.

Further details relating to assessment
Students are expected to attend 100% in all modules. Attendance that falls below 75% in the PE modules will fail and students will be required to re-sit each module at the discretion of the Head of Department.
Practical resit opportunities will be available in the University resit period.

Students must gain a pass in the pass/fail component.
