PSY6222 - Forensic Psychology

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

(1) Demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of a range of psychological theories relevant to the field of forensic psychology.
(2) Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of psychological theories explaining offending behaviour and treatment
(3) Show awareness of specific applications of psychological knowledge to the criminal justice system.
(4) Demonstrate a critical awareness of a range of issues within forensic psychology.

Content:

Introduction to forensic psychology, Theories of offending behaviour, Violent offenders, Sexual offenders, Assessment and treatment of Offenders, Gender and aggression, Police and Prison Psychology. Witness and courtroom psychology.
