PSY4072 - Professional Development and Placement in Psychology

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

(1) Demonstrate knowledge of the full range of psychology communication and employability skills including writing a presentable CV and effective letter of application.
(2) Demonstrate knowledge of job/career entry analysis for a named job/career in psychology.
(3) Demonstrate reflective evaluation of their strengths and weaknesses across a range of key employability skills
(4) Apply employability skills in the workplace and perform to a satisfactory standard.

Content:

A professional development programme comprising:
1. Introduction to Professional Development Planning and Placements module including
- Job/career entry analysis
- Developing psychology communication and employability skills
- CV drafting and presentation
- Interviewing skills
- Briefings by EPO and careers service
2. Meeting with Placement tutor
Placement with suitable organisation(s) normally six weeks in total
Reflection and evaluation on the placement

Learning and Teaching Information:

1. Lectures: instruction on full range of psychology communication and employability skills including discussions and practical exercises relating to the requirements of the preparatory portfolio.
2. Individual tutorials with Placement tutor/Progress tutor before the placement starts.
