PPD6012 - Becoming a Primary Teacher: Environment & Practice

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Express a comprehensive understanding of the standards for qualified teacher status
2 Plan effectively for a particular age group using differentiation, appropriate teaching strategies and planned assessment
3 Express a comprehensive understanding of effective conditions for learning, learning inhibitors and the creation of an effective learning environment
4 Critically evaluate a teaching episode and reflect on its impact on future planning

Content:

In this module students will be introduced to the TDA QTS standards and evaluate how they apply to practice in schools. They will evaluate teaching strategies and conditions for learning, addressing the personalised learning agenda, SEN, EAL and inclusion issues to be accommodated in planning, delivery, assessment and evaluation.

Students will be expected to plan and deliver a teaching session resulting in a critical evaluation of the impact this session made on pupil learning, and the requirements for future planning.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
