PPD6002 - Supporting Learning & Inclusion

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Critically review learning theory and strategies in light of their experiences and own learning style
2. Evaluate the impact of environmental, social, physical issues on an individual’s learning and cognitive development
3. Demonstrate an understanding of how key conditions may manifest themselves and how to respond appropriately in the learning environment
4. Examine their own role in supporting the learning of children, young people or adults and critically appraise their practice

Content:

This taught module examines learning theory, the development of cognitive abilities, inhibitors to learning and the impact of teaching strategies and institutions on individual learning needs.
The learning contexts considered will span the Foundation Stage to Key Stage 4 and through to further or higher education.
Students will critically examine issues related to inclusion in light of legislation, the Code of Practice and other relevant strategies.
Students will examine their role in supporting the learning of those with whom they work; how they assess initial needs; strategies they use to support learners and how to measure success.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
