PED5402 - Information and Communications Techonology 2

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Show they have developed a secure knowledge and understanding of ICT and its related pedagogy in order to support their teaching at KS1 and KS2 (Q14)
2 Show knowledge and understanding of the Primary Strategy, National Curriculum and QCA Scheme of Work for ICT (Q15)
3 Show they have knowledge of, and understand, ICT as a subject and how it can support teaching and learning and their wider professional activities (Q17)
4 Use information Technology, including word processing, data bases, internet communication, information retrieval and on line searches (T2)
5 Communicate and present oral and written arguments (T1)
6 Improve their own learning and performance, including the development of study and research skills, information retrieval, and capacity to plan and manage learning, and to reflect on their own learning. (T5)

Content:

• Audit of trainees’ ICT experience during School Based Training including a reflection on how ICT can support teaching and learning with the age of children taught.
• Trainees carry out self evaluation in order to identify their confidence, competence and needs in ICT
• Develop and extend the trainees knowledge and understanding of ICT in the context of the KS1/KS2 age phases.
• Ensure the trainees’ knowledge of Health and Safety, Legal, Ethical and Data Protection issues in relation to ICT is secure.
• Ensure the trainees can show evidence of using the National Curriculum and QCA Scheme of Work for ICT as appropriate to identify effective and appropriate aims and objectives for a lesson or series of lessons.
• Development of the use appropriate technologies to support teaching and learning in the KS1/KS2 areas of learning to ensure the trainees feel confident and competent in its use in a classroom context and that they understand how ICT can support teaching and learning in all areas of the Primary Curriculum.
• Develop skills, knowledge and understanding through focused activities to ensure the trainees can show their knowledge of ICT at KS1/KS2 is secure and would lead to appropriate use in school based training.
• Show knowledge and understanding of national policies and guidance of the safe use of the world wide web.
• Show they can design opportunities for learners to develop ICT skills.

Learning and Teaching Information:

Each taught session of 2 hours will take the form of a 3 part lesson:
• Introduction with session aims and objectives ( approximately 15 minutes)
• Trainee engagement in, and development of, appropriate tasks (approx. 1 hr 30 mins.)
• Plenary-feedback and identification of learning and next step.(approx. 15 mins.)
During the course of each session there will be tutor/trainee interaction to meet individual needs and help develop skills, confidence, competence, knowledge and understanding relating to the aims and objectives.
On-going self evaluation will be part of the trainees’ identification of needs.
Course documentation, support materials and web based materials will be available on the VLE.
